VOICEOVER SEMINAR SET FOR JULY 29TH IN NYC
NEW YORK – On Wednesday, July 29th, a voiceover career seminar will be held at The Times Center in New York City. “Secrets of Voiceover Success” will feature a panel of celebrity voiceover talent, who will discuss the art of voiceover acting for film, television, advertising and promotions.
(7/2/2009)
The event – set for 7pm – will be hosted by Alan Kalter, the voice of Late Show with David Letterman, and will feature special guests Joan Baker (author of “Secrets of Voice-Over Success”), Jim Dale (Tony award winning actor and the voice of the Harry Potter audio series), Richard Thomas (celebrated actor and the voice of Mercedes-Benz), Joe Cipriano (voice of the Primetime Emmy Awards, Deal or No Deal, and the Simpsons), Valerie Smaldone (host of Broadway on Broadway) and Rodd Houston (voice of Verizon Wireless and the NFL).In addition, five audience members will be selected to audition for the pros. The discussion and auditions will be followed by a cocktail networking reception and book signing of the revised and expanded edition of Baker’s book, which showcases some of the world’s top voiceover talent. The book and the event were inspired by Baker’s father – James Baker – who lost the gift of communication to Alzheimer’s Disease. All of Baker’s book royalties will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Tickets are available for $49.95 and can be purchased online at http://www.thetimecenter.com or http://www.ticketweb.com. The event is being sponsored by Neumann USA, Actors Federal Credit Union, and Push Creative Advertising.

Three more. Three less.
iggymak
Three more auditions. Besides the two bids I put in in Spain. Not a peep from any of them. What’s depressing is that, supposedly, the two bids were where I was selected. Oh well. Depression continues. Whatever. No takers for my sound gear either. I did last summer in desperation get rid of my two PA speakers with stands… that was a bummer as he got em for a song.

...oh.

You know, they don’t provide stats for this site and there’s no option to add them. I wonder if anyone’s ever seen it, besides the two that clicked it from another site of mine. Not that there’s much yet to read. Sorry about that, but, I’m depressed.

For the gearheads… my little rig…
The first thing encountered by the sound waves is an sE pop screen which is an interestingly different design that works well, then it typically hits an EV RE20 cardioid dynamic mic or maybe a CAD M37 or Audio Technica AT-2020 cardioid condenser. Then into either a Symetrix 528E channel strip or a lot of the time I go directly into a PreSonus Firebox, which is currently the computer interface.
Monitoring the sound… for this I have two headphones to choose from, Sony MDR-7506 and Sennheiser HD-280 Pros, both of which are great. For control room monitors I have M-Audio BX-5 powered monitors and for “the Auratones” I use Altec ACS-430 computer speakers.
The computer is a Boxx 3DBoxx 5404 workstation. I use Sound Forge and Vegas for audio, usually Sound Forge. I also have Cubase LE that came with something, but it’s not loaded even though it’s very good.
There’s more stuff lying about, which I should set up again, and I will one of these days. I better go, it’s time to give auntie her evening pills… should do another audition before I crash, too.

Stuff For Sale
iggymak
If anyone is local to Greenwich, Connecticut and is interested I have the following for sale. Two CAD M37 condensers with shockmounts; two Audio-Technica AT-2020; four Electro-Voice RE-90B boundary mics. I can’t afford to ship them, sorry… my economy is non-existant. I could let the marantz PMD-320U cd player go as well, and perhaps the dbx DriveRack PA.

A Fine Idea...
iggymak
A wonderful idea, this community. I am certainly glad to be here. Couldn’t have come at a better time , either, with the economy as it is and my personal economy even worse… so, yes, indeed, this is a great idea.
People will be able to see and hear us… perhaps have us voice their messages… The possibilities are very nice.

Hey, thanks, Brian. I think it’s going to get worse, and I also think it’s part of a grand scheme. The global economy I mean, not voiceover. Although everyone and everything will feel it. It is wonderfully kind of you to offer what you have. I welcome it. You never know who might hear it… Let me know if you need more than what I’ve posted and I’ll provide it. Thanks again. Very much.
