Help the Planet: Don’t print your scripts anymore!

How many pages of script do you print on a day to day basis for recording auditions, or script changes and even big projects? How much do you spend buying paper and where does it all go? The garbage. Your money is definitely going into the garbage.

Paper is one of the most important discovery’s of humanity, used for millenniums to share knowledge. Anywhere you look you can find books, magazines, ads, journals, a piece of paper, or a simple “post it” note.

Thirteen cm. wide, eighteen cm. long can list approximately 70.000 standard A4 pages. How many trees have you destroyed during in your lifetime?

There is an answer.

Now you can use the Kindle 2: Amazon’s New Wireless Reading Device (Latest Generation) and you don’t have to destroy anymore trees. Eliminate the need to print your Microsoft Word, PDF, HTML, TXT, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, PRC and MOBI files.

Kindle provides a crisp black-and-white 6″ screen with the same appearance and readability of printed paper. The screen uses ink, just like books and newspapers, but displays the ink particles electronically. And unlike a laptop or smart phone, Kindle never gets warm, so you can comfortably read as long as you like.

Buy Kindle 2 here and do your part to help the future generations.

How to become a famous blogger

A lot of people all over the Internet have become famous and well-known because of their blogs. We bet it’s even easier to make it big when you’re an artist such as a voiceover talent!
Making your blog interesting for both voiceover talents and regular viewers demands a lot of dedication.

Here are a few tips to help you steal their attention with your blog.

- Create your own style! It will help a great deal for people to remember your blog when you use a catchy Blog Title or by simply signing your posts in a different way. How about ending your posts by mentioning what music you were listening to while you were writing?

- Some successful bloggers post every day. Others, post 3 times a day. It’s important for you to choose a certain time between posts so that people know when to return to your blog. Most of all, it’s recommended to update your blog with new entries constantly.

- Tell your readers when you stop posting for a while. If you travel or have to spend a weekend out, let your readers know so that they won’t think you left your blog. Even when you’re out, write a little. If you neglect your blog, when you return it will to take some time to recover all the viewers you had before you left.

- There is no specific pattern for a successful blog entry. It doesn’t need to be huge or even a little sentence, short paragraphs work for most people.

- Add a lot of pictures, videos and sounds to your blog whenever you can. It will give it more life. It’s rare to see a successful blog with only letters in it.

- Make friends with other bloggers. Bring their viewers in and let your viewers see your friends by sharing links.

- Read and comment in your friends blogs whenever you can. You get the chance to put your blog URL in the message. When your comments are funny and interesting, it will intrigue viewers to visit your blog?

- Share with all your family and friends.

- Lastly, get an easy address like http://voiceover-casting.com/YOURBLOGSNA….

Home Studio Acoustics

Living in a big city, you constantly face a lot of trouble trying to avoid all the noise from cars passing by, dogs barking, etc… It’s a lot of noise we get use to listening to everyday. But, when it comes to professionally recording something, you simply can’t have outside noises.
Keeping your home studio silent is a tough and sometimes expensive task. Depending on where your studio is located, you will have to use more than one technique to get professional sound quality.

* Ideally, you should insulate a room with fiberglass filler, which reduces wall resonance and increases the isolation of a regular wall (normally isolates 3-5dB) from 5 to 8dB. The thickness of gypsum in the wall, when it’s doubled compared to a regular wall (usually 5/8” thick), increases its isolation from 3 to 6dB and considerably lowers the resonant frequency. This applies not only for the walls but for the ceiling and floor too.

Ok, that would be the finest option. But, if you have a modest place in your home, how about a few nice simple tips?

* When picking a room in the house to be your home studio, avoid picking up those rooms adjoined to bathrooms or kitchens. There are a lot of people that may tell you that a garage is the best place for a home studio, but, the big door may be a problem for the isolation of the room. If there’s a basement in your house, that’s the best place to build your home studio.

* Fill every crack and hole in your walls, ceilings and floors, even the smallest ones.

* Use flat rubber or rubber and metal gaskets to isolate the door of your home studio. Doors are usually the main cause for external noises to invade a room. Having these types of material around your door is very important to keep your home studio as quiet as possible.

* Parallel walls, when flat, are a problem. It’s highly recommended that you add diffusers to them so that it spreads the reverberant sound, preventing standing waves. I`ll bet you have seen these diffusers a lot of times on studio’s walls:
foam

* Put a carpet down to cover the floor.

* A microphone’s directionality or polar pattern is an important feature in getting the microphone to capture what comes out of your mouth more than what is in the other angles of the room, including external noise. Most of all, avoid an Omni-directional microphone for voiceovers. They aren’t recommended for these kinds of jobs.

If you have any doubts or would like to give another tip about how to insulate a room from external noises, feel free to comment on this post.
See ya next time!

Smoking Voiceover Talents.

It’s obvious: cigarettes are trouble. We all know It’s pretty unfair to see people like Frank Sinatra smoking three packs a day with such a wonderful voice, but most of us aren’t blessed like him. Cigarettes dry up your throat, reduce lung capacity and irritate both, these are essential for a great voice. Ok, you’re a heavy smoker and you can’t stop it. Yeah, we actually knew we wouldn’t make up your mind anyway so we collected some great tips for you to be a better smoker to your voice. Yes, It is possible to turn the addiction less harmful.

*Try to give bigger pauses from one cigarette to the next. The bigger the break the better, it will allow your throat to humidify again naturally. If it takes you half an hour to smoke again, why don’t you watch another episode of Seinfeld and wait half an hour more? If nicotine gum helps, then go ahead and chew it.

*Smaller Drags are better than long drags. With long drags, one after another, you irritate your throat a lot more than with smaller drags, pausing longer between each puff.

*Avoid talking while you hold the smoke. After you drag, get rid of the smoke in your lungs before you start to speak. Pretty simple and means a little less lung damage. A little may mean a lot in a few years.

*Change to a lighter brand. You don’t need to be carrying the full flavors always. The improvement you will notice after changing to a lighter cigarette is impressive. Of course it won’t help if you double the amount of cigarettes you’re smoking just because they are “light”.

*While smoking, drink something. It’s important to keep your throat humidified. And don’t take this as an excuse to drink alcohol every time you light a cigarette! Actually the best choice’s for your voice would be natural juices and water.

And last but certainly not least: Exercise! We know how much you didn’t want to read it here but YES! Exercising reduces the lung damage caused by smoke, and, hard breathing is excellent for your voice. Try running like crazy for fifteen minutes, afterward rest for a little, then your voice will sound awesome.

Of course it would be a lot better to quit smoking, but that`s old news and you’re tired of  hearing it. So follow our tips and keep up the good work!
